I have a very wide and deep understanding of most all aspects of IT.  I have many years experience and have been given the freedom to take on anything of interest in the IT arena with past employers.  I am professional in how I interact with people, and how I conduct myself at all times.

 

Technical Experience

 

Microsoft DOS & Windows NT/9X/ME/XP/2000/2003

Windows 3.1/NT/9X/ME/XP networked client support experience, Windows NT Workstation/Server 4.0, Windows 2000/2003 server including SBS.  Capable of designing, installing, supporting most any LAN/WAN based solutions for the windows platform. Extensive background with installation of PC and server operating systems, and products and processes that can increase efficiency in the installation. Microsoft OS protection including virus, malware, adware, system backup, and file protection.  Fileserver hardware, software, application installation, upgrade/troubleshooting.  OS migration with 3rd party tools for moving from one hardware configuration to another.

 

Electronic Mail

Exchange 5.5/2000/2003 installation/maintenance/general upkeep including preventative maintenance.  Spam protection management using Trend micro, and Barracuda Networks Spamfirewall appliance. Knowledge of older SMTP based email server applications.  Good understanding of the SMTP protocol and how it is used to transmit and receive internet based mail.

 

LAN/WAN/VPN

Managed a large WAN consisting of 30+ sites, each having a WLAN and LAN with upto 75 devices attached. Designed, installed, and maintained all hardware and configuration to support connectivity and routing throughout entire WAN.  Also designed and implemented VLAN segmentation and ACLs to control access and enforce IT policy for entire enterprise. Managed a Cisco  3745 with a 6MB ATM/IMA to DSL connection that was used for the WAN transport.  Installed VPNs for special access using Juniper hardware and software.

 

Internet and intranet

TCP/IP: address subnets, design, and troubleshooting of routing and internet computing, including locating IP overlay problems. Working knowledge of application gateways, firewalling (including ACLs and DMZs), DNS, IIS.  Knowledge of internet commerce and security issues, and have limited experience with SecurID types of authentication.

 

ISCSI SAN

Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of an ISCSI SAN using a Stonefly storage concentrator, and SCSI attached storage array. This included all components of the network; ISCSI HBAs, Switches, and configuration. Managed over 2TB of data, and about 15 partitions among 8-10 file servers. Performed several data moves as space requirements changed.  Also was responsible for planning and forecasting future storage needs.

 

Terminal Server and Citrix

Managed a Citrix farm comprised of 4 IBM blade servers, and about 110 users.  This included a printing application called “screw driver” to help bridge the gap in the native printing system from Citrix.  Managed a terminal server which housed several applications for accounting, and other departments. Windows Terminal server 2000/2003, Citrix Metaframe 1.8

 

Voice/Data and Telco

Phone system knowledge of the Telrad, 3Com and Nortel KSU systems.  From install, upgrade, maintenance, and configuration.  Supported at varying degrees, and different times, all aspects of voice service. This included ordering, forecasting, finding savings, and working with vendor to solve trouble.  Experience with Analog trunks (both POTS and DID), T-1s, T-3s, ISDN, PRI, Super and Smart trunks.  Advanced troubleshooting of the mentioned circuits/services. Understanding of VOiP and the requirements needed for a successful implementation across any enterprise.  Packet tagging / prioritizing hardware needed to support such a system, also MPLS and its function within a VOiP solution. Limited experience with Alcatel VOiP, and was responsible for general troubleshooting and user support.

 

Other Skills

I have exceptional communication and management skills for LAN/WAN/server support services, documentation and operational procedures. I have a knack for being able to explain difficult technical and business concepts and ideas to individuals with varying levels of personal expertise.   I have been defined as a generalist and team-player.  I think well outside the box and am not one to give up before exhausting all possibilities, which has proven invaluable in my IT-related responsibilities.  Additionally I have supported windows based software and services including SQL, active directory, WINS, DNS, and managing a laundry list of applications to varying degrees. Customer service and support of all client/server environments, with responsibilities ranging from design network architecture and topology integration. Accustomed to sourcing, ordering and procurement, inventory tracking, assembly of systems, delivery, installation and training; cabling, trouble-shooting, preventive maintenance, and repair, warranty tracking, RMA and licensing. Researching of new products or solutions as need arises. Knowledgeable in maintaining service accounts and contract renewal dates. Project management experiences 5-10 large projects and numerous smaller projects.

Network Services Manager

  • Configuration, setup and maintenance for all network equipment (wired and wireless) which includes 30+ branch offices in the metropolitan Kansas City area (more than 2,400 sales associates).
  • Installation, setup, programming and repair of all telephone needs, which consists of 30 separate phone systems and nearly 3,000 handsets and voicemail boxes.
  • Installation, configuration and repair of over 50 file servers and PCs for over 300 staff members and more than 200 common area machines located in branch offices.
  • Supported connectivity issues for personally owned sales associates PCs.
  • Coordination of 10-15 office relocations/mergers.  Coordinated with vendors and other resources to ensure successful transitions.
  • Interaction with more than 30 branch managers regarding system education and problem-solving issues.  Served as a supervisor and resource for advanced trouble-shooting matters for up to 5 technicians.
  • Played a key role in the merging of 2 separate companies in relation to server/services/domains in 2002 when J.D. Reece Realtors merged with JC Nichols Realtors.  Many aspects from physical relocation to consolidation, upgrades, data and user merging, etc.
